About Us

Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.  Through hundreds of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America helps more than 2 million people in over 400 communities.  Since 1896, our ministry of service has supported and empowered America’s most vulnerable groups, including at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions.  Our work touches the mind, body, heart – and ultimately the spirit – of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services.

Since 1929 Volunteers of America has been serving the people and communities in Wisconsin.  Over the years daycare, adoption services, residential care homes for the frail elderly, developmentally disabled and mentally ill adults have met the critical needs of thousands of individuals.

Today, Volunteers of America of Wisconsin provides services in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Kenosha, Whitewater, Clintonville, Waupaca and Manitowoc.  We currently serve 55 residents who are frail elderly, adults with disabilities and those with chronic mental illness and their families providing 24-hour care in seven group homes.  Personal care and assistance with daily activities are provided in a home-like environment focusing on individual needs and preferences.

We also provide affordable apartment homes at 17 locations throughout Wisconsin.  Seniors and individuals with disabilities are provided rental assistance at a very affordable rate based on income.  Living independently is oftentimes a challenge for these individuals.  Volunteers of America of Wisconsin provides professional staff who work with these residents in securing a variety of ancillary services related to health care, financial and other personal needs.  These referral services are provided at all affordable housing locations and allow residents to remain active in their community and live independently.
